The Great British Spud Off

| April 30, 2013 | 2 Comments

Some of you may remember a couple of months back I wrote about the #spud off that the Two Thirsty Gardeners are hosting this year. The very simple rules are you must us a recycled container and plant no more than 5 pink fir apple potatoes in said container.

So for the past couple of months my pots have been ‘chitting’ away on the window sill. And (un)luckily our water butt split so that is our chosen recycled container!

So there you have it. Two tubs created, each with five potatoes in. For the #spud off we will be taking the weight of spuds from one of the tubs. As the plants start to grow through, compost will be added otherwise known as ‘earthing up’ around the plants. More on that at a later date! You can hop over to the #spudoff page to see the other entries!

  1. Darn! If only I had seen your earlier post. We usually buy our seed potatoes before now but missed them at our local garden centre so yesterday OH comes back with pack of Pentland Javelin and instructed me to plant today – which I duly did in our usual spud growing container of an old dustbin. The only thing I have wrong is the type of potato!
