At the weekend with perfect timing two dvd’s arrived in the post for review. Sammy’s Great Escape with the lovely turtle plush and Jack the Giant Slayer with some magic beans!
First up we watched Sammy’s Great Escape, being a G rating so suitable for J. A bright and vibrant film following Sammy & Ray who are leatherback turtles and old time friends. They are taken by poachers and shipped off to a giant aquarium in Dubai (how fitting!). Also taken (but not seen by the poachers) are Ricky & Ella who are both hatchlings and the story follows both them trying to rescue Sammy & Ray and the latters time in the aquarium with the characters they meet including Big D the seahorse who is the kingpin (and the smallest one in there), Jimbo the bug eyed blob fish who you really can’t help but feel sorry for and Lulu the snippy lobster amongst others. This is a lovely story with a moral slant and actually some great tunes including Jimi Hendrix and The B52′s! The RRP for this dvd is £16.33 which includes ultraviolet too.
If you haven’t heard of ultraviolet (I only did last month at BritMums Live), it is a redemption code which allows you to download the film on up to 5 different devices so you can share it with friends or family.
Next up we watched Jack the Giant Slayer which is based around the old classic of Jack and the Giant Beanstalk. This is rated 12. Some quite scary scenes in there with very ugly Giants and a great amount of humour too. Jack is played by Nicholas Hoult along with Eleanor Tomlinson playing Princess Isabelle, noteably Bill Nighy, Ian McShane and Ewan McGregor also star and make a great cast line up. Jack reopens a gateway between the human work and the very ugly Giants. Centuries ago the giants were defeated in a fierce battle with humans and then banished to their remote kingdom in the sky. We thoroughly enjoyed this film and would watch it again! A definite 5/5. The RRP is £20.42 and also includes Ultraviolet.
So there’s two dvd’s to buy for the summer holidays, both of which were released on Monday of this week! Now where did I put those magic beans….
